Thousands of names are registered every year in coveted list the India Book of Records. Behind those names are the people you might not find extraordinary. They might walk right past you without dropping a hint of what they are capable of. These names are usually not of any celebrities, or well-known people. They are ordinary people like a homemaker, a teenager or an autorickshaw driver. They can be anyone, who holds on to their dreams and work towards it in silence. The day they choose to put forth their talent, the whole nation comes to know.
How do ordinary people set records?
What makes these people extraordinary is not their status, talent or luck. It is something far simpler and rarer- the stubbornness of not treating a dream, like a mere dream. They work on it behind the scenes, and announce it only when they feel that it’s the time to shine. At India Book of Records, we have at the privilege of providing a platform which witnesses thousands of such extraordinary transformations every year. Come, let us recount some of the most unique records of India!
1. Sky conquered by an officer of the Armed Forces
Wing Commander P. Makeshwar of Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu had set his eyes on the blues of the sky as soon as he had joined the Armed Forces. On October 28, 2025, he realised his dream of performing tandem skydive from the highest altitude of 27,460 feet from an aircraft and executed a safe landing on mountainous terrain, at Puga (Ladakh), and set an astounding adventure record across India. Since he is also a certified ‘Tandem Master’, he formed this daunting dive carrying a passenger along with him. He has proved that the sky might be high above, but not higher than his dreams.
2. Magical scissors or magic through Scissors?

Nisha Rajput of New Delhi, set a record using a pair of scissors. She set the record of cutting the maximum number of blouse pieces, in different patterns. A total of 57 blouse pieces of different patterns, including frill, halter, corset and princess cut among other designs were cut out by her in just 15 minutes and 16 milliseconds. She became a beacon of hope and proved that even simple talents can achieve extraordinary feats.
3. Age is just a number, when you want to lift weights!
We should learn a lesson or two from septuagenarian Desaraju Venkata Sankara Rao of Bhadradri Kothagudem, Telangana. He has set the record for winning the maximum number of gold medals in a single national powerlifting championship, after he underwent a bypass surgery in 2012.
He secured four gold medals in the National Masters Classic & Equipped Powerlifting Championship 2025 (under 83 kg category) at Kozhikode (Kerala), held from August 2, 2025 to August 7, 2025, organised by Powerlifting India. He set this pinnacle of a record at the unbelievable age of 72 years, 1 month and 21 days.
4. Let’s do Mehendi designs, but on the longest cloth.
Akanksha Patel of Barabanki, Uttar Pradesh, had a knack for making intricate mehendi designs. She chose to take this hobby a step further by setting a record of making mehendi designs on the longest piece of cloth.
She made one continuous intricate mehndi design on the longest cloth, measuring 39.1 feet x 3 feet, in 13 hours and 51 minutes, depicting traditional dance forms, including Ghoomar, Garba, Kathakali and others. She used 46 mehndi cones to set this unique record in India.
5. An inspiring fitness record for Indian women.
Bijall Joshi (born on December 20, 1991) of Surat, Gujarat has set a record for performing the plank pose with additional weight for the longest duration. She held herself in the plank pose, with an additional weight of 75 kg on her back, for 45 seconds.
She has successfully negated the fact that women begin losing their strength in their thirties due to low Vitamin D levels and decreasing bone density. Through her conscious effort and dedication, she has created an awareness that through proper weight training and regular exercise (along with a healthy diet) any woman can achieve optimum health.
These were only a few mentions where exemplary feats have been achieved by people from different walks of life. These otherwise ordinary people, decided to come out of their shells, break their monotonous routine and dedicate their time to achieve some of the most extraordinary feats in India. They took up simple tasks, which are done by so many others, but their way of doing such activities was distinctly different.
Be it lifting weights, skydiving, holding the plank pose, cutting blouse pieces or applying mehendi, all these activities are done by many people across the country. Our record holders decided to introduce their own twist to these fairly plain activities, something which only they could do, and became extraordinary Indian record holders!
