Road safety awareness campaign
The record for the‘maximum number of people pledged to support road safety awareness while driving’ was set by 5K Car Care Pvt Ltd of Coimbatore. The campaign was held across all the traffic signals in Tamil Nadu.
India is home to the second-largest road network in the world, with a total road length of approximately 63.73 lakh kms. This massive network serves as the nation’s lifeline transporting over 64.5% of all goods within the country in addition to being the preferred option for moving over 90% of India’s passenger traffic. While roads remain synonymous with development and growth in the country, they have also been a nemesis for users in India, also carrying the dubious distinction of leading the global tally of annual deaths and injuries on account of road accidents. There were 4,12,432 unfortunate incidents of road accidents during 2021, which claimed 1,53,972 lives and caused injuries to 3,84,448 persons.
Considering the graveness of the situation, 5K Car Care Pvt Ltd (a car detailing service provider) of Coimbatore, decided to sensitize the vehicle drivers about traffic rules and avoid accidents. The company successfully established a record for the ‘maximum number of people pledged to support road safety awareness while driving’ in Tamil Nadu. The campaign was carried out across all the traffic signals in the state from March 8, 2023, to April 2, 2023, wherein a total of 1 lakh people took the pledge to support road safety awareness. The event was recognized by the India Book of Records.
Dr Karthick Kumar Chinnaraj, Founder of 5K Car Care Pvt Ltd, said, “Tamil Nadu has been in second place for the maximum number of accidents happening in India. This initiative was successfully conducted to reduce accidents and support road safety awareness while driving. “The man behind the wheel plays an important role in most of the crashes. Most crashes occur as a result of carelessness or a lack of awareness of road safety among road users. Hence, road safety education is as essential as any other basic skill for survival. Being unaware of rules and regulations on the road or knowingly ignoring them is another major cause of road accidents. For instance, many drivers change lanes without giving a proper signal or without looking in the rearview mirror,” he added.
Earlier also the company had conducted a road safety awareness drive by making an art installation of 2500 sq ft size in 10 minutes. The event was assisted by the Coimbatore City Police, Tamil Nadu. During the event, people were informed that road traffic injuries are the eighth leading cause of death globally. Numerous factors can be attributed to being the causative factors of road accidents like distracted driving, drunk driving, speeding or reckless driving, not wearing a seat belt, potholes and bad road conditions, breaking traffic rules and tailgating (driving or following closely behind another vehicle). 5K Car Care Pvt Ltd, established in Codissia in 2012, provides car detailing services through 150+ branches in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Telangana, and Puducherry.
