The record for being the Youngest Human Calculator was set by Shanay Vimesh Dedhia of Mumbai, Maharashtra. He did multiple calculations in addition and multiplication accurately in both 1-minute and 5-minute timelines from 8 am to 1 am at a young age of 8 years, 9 months and 28 days at Shishuvan School, Mumbai on December 4, 2022, setting two independent records under the India Book of Records (IBR) and the Asia Book of Records (ABR). The child has been studying at Billabong High International School, Thane.

Everyone has an inspiration to look up to. Shanay had one such, that too in his own house – his elder brother — Jinansh. Shanay was a tiny tot who would see his brother keep doing something on an abacus, solving cubes, etc. He would also try playing with an abacus and cubes; however, he was more inclined to cubes initially. That’s when his parents thought why not train him for cubes. Although looking at his tender age it was a challenge for them. He was less than 3 years when the training for cubes began and by the age of 3.6 years; he successfully solved types of cubes and thus became the youngest Cuber of India.

Seeing his amazing cube-solving skills, he was invited to one of the universities of Turkey to showcase cubing talent at the age of 3.8 years. Since then he has been a winner at various cube championships in India. Slowly and gradually his interest started developing toward numbers. With his amazing response to the training his parents made him participate in a National Abacus Competition, where he proved himself by winning a gold medal. With this win, he was very motivated to learn and practice more with the uttermost sincerity.

“We made him participate in one of the largest mental math championships held in Australia. It came as an absolute surprise that he won the event with 2 gold medals for our country. The joy on his face was priceless. Following this, he was awarded the most prestigious Midday Navratna Award. Further, he won another gold at World Education Games, having participants from 120 countries with 2.5 million participants. He has been appreciated by the Governor of Maharashtra, Bhagat Singh Koshyari for his achievements in the field of mental calculations,” tell the proud parents, Ms Jinal and Mr Vimesh Dedhia.

Since his brother is an inspiration to him, Shanay also prepared himself for one year with rigorous and dedicated practice to attempt for records. After spending 5 hours on attempts he successfully registered 15 India Book of Records and 15 Asia Book of Records, having a total of 30 records in his name. Now he is the band ambassador of Billabong High International School- Thane. He loves to spend his time playing badminton and cricket and making drawings. He is very fond of dogs and is very sporty with extreme energy. His goal is to become a scientist. He also looks forward to winning many accolades for the nation in the field of mental calculations.
