In every ledger of human greatness, behind every record holder, every achiever, every champion and every visionary, there is almost always a family who believed in them first.
Every year on May 15, the entire world celebrates the safest emotional space for every person- their families. On this day, we should all take a moment to be grateful for our families, for they are our first classroom, our safest harbour, and the invisible thread that ties us across the generations. Moreover, in a country like India, it is a commonly accepted fact that nothing comes above family. At the India Book of Records, over the last 21 years, we have seen many attempts which were a strong testament of familial ties. Especially when we verify the record attempts of young children and teenagers. Only with the support of families can they achieve such great feats.
This International Day of Families 2026, to celebrate this fabulous institution of family, India Book of Records brings to you some of the most fascinating family records of India. These records were set by families from different corners of the country, who have turned their familial love into a legacy. We have reserved the most fantastic story for the last, so read till the end.
Three generations summiting the Annapurna Base Camp together
Many people aim to summit Annapurna Base Camp. But Krishan Saroop Sood of Gurugram, Haryana, wanted to do it in a little different way than the rest. He accomplished this goal of his, with his family.

He took along his two daughters and a granddaughter for this mountainous task. In this way, he set the record of summiting the Annapurna Base Camp with the maximum number of generations of one family. They together summited Annapurna Base Camp in Nepal (at an altitude of 4,130 metres) together from April 27, 2025, to May 5, 2025. It is truly said that any road becomes conquerable when you walk on it with your loved ones.

Largest Gathering of the Members of a Family
We all have that one family in our neighbourhood which is big, with numerous family members. But if we tell you that there is a family which has almost 1000 members in it, and we haven’t even counted their ancestors yet. Even though it sounds too unbelievable, it is still very much true. Meet the Varayil family, whose family strength helped them set a record with the India Book of Records.

The Varayils of Kannur, Kerala, set a mind-blowing record for organising the largest gathering of their family members. A total of 849 members of this humongous family paid a visit to this gathering. They all came from three distinct regions of Kerala, namely, Cherukunnu, Pariyaram and Pazhayangadi, on December 25, 2024. This event was organised to inaugurate their family home called Ezhome Kudumba Veedu, and celebrated the reunion with dancing, singing and other activities.

Maximum Family Generations Executing Registered Wills on the Same Day
It is often advised by the advocates to keep your will ready beforehand. And, Adv. Mahendra Ekbote of LegalShield, Nashik, Maharashtra, made sure that three generations of his client’s family are ready before the time comes. The seasoned advocate set a record of executing registered wills of the maximum number of family generations on the same day. This was a landmark legal event which took place at the Sub-Registrar’s Office in Thane, Maharashtra.

The “Generational Will Event” featured three generations of a family- a grandmother, her son, and her grandson. All three of them executed and registered their individual wills on the same day, in full compliance with the provisions of Indian Testamentary Law and the Registration Act, 1908.
A family that crafts dolls!
The art of making dolls is ancient. It is an art form which has been passed on like an old memory from our ancestors. It is also closely related to making idols and clay figurines of Hindu deities. Combining the essence of both the art forms, Vijay Rajan N, along with his family members, set a beautiful record.

Together, they set the record for the maximum number of dolls crafted and displayed during Navaratri by a family. They crafted and displayed a total of 1,800 dolls on the pious occasion of the Navaratri Golu festival (a festive display of dolls and figurines) to mark the victory of good over evil. They made this record to celebrate the festival and foster creativity, cultural education, and community bonding.
Family that travels together, stays together!
This family of Kannur, Kerala, took this saying seriously, and while doing so, they set a record! Manish Dovindan, along with his wife and son, set the record for visiting the maximum number of European countries in one year.

Together they travelled across Europe, visiting a total of 23 countries, including Germany, Belgium, Italy and Sweden among the rest. They began their travels from July 6, 2024 and concluded it on June 19, 2025, as confirmed on October 28, 2025
India Book of Records- celebrating every family’s story
Since our founding, India Book of Records has been committed to one purpose- to celebrate the depth, diversity and indomitable spirit of the people of India. And the more records we document, the more certain we become that this spirit lives most vividly and most fiercely in the Indian families.
From families summiting peaks to making dolls, we have seen all the members engaged together, collectively making efforts to achieve something remarkable. We have also witnessed how families come together to pool resources so that someone from their family can attempt a record. Families may not always be perfect. They are complex, sometimes difficult, at others, loud and chaotic. But they also offer something which can’t be found anywhere else- unconditional love and support. And, we wholeheartedly support this very Indian sentiment.
