Youngest Patient Treated for CES Using Monoportal Endoscopic Discectomy by a Neurosurgeon
The record for the youngest patient treated for cauda equina syndrome (CES) using monoportal endoscopic discectomy by a neurosurgeon was set by Dr. Dheeraj Vishwakarma of the Geetanjali Institute of Medical Sciences, Jaipur, Rajasthan. On June 2, 2025, he performed the procedure on an 11-year-old boy (June 30, 2013) with a large lumbar disc herniation and impending cauda equina syndrome. This is the youngest case using this advanced spinal technique, which was previously limited to adults. The successful outcome marks a groundbreaking shift in paediatric spine surgery, demonstrating the safety and effectiveness of minimally invasive approaches, as confirmed on July 25, 2025.
