Top 5 Environmental Champions Who Made It to the India Book of Records

World Environment Day, observed every June 5, is more than a date on the calendar. It is a reminder that the earth deserves not just our attention, but also our earnest action. India has never been short of people willing to answer that call. From young children to seasoned professionals, from university campuses to Himalayan peaks, a quiet revolution of green champions has been reshaping what environmental commitment looks like in this country. This World Environment Day 2026, we celebrate five such extraordinary individuals and organisations whose dedication ran so deep, it earned a place in the India Book of Records.

Read on, feel inspired, and perhaps ask yourself- could you be India’s next environmental record holder?

Collaborating forces to make future citizens eco-conscious

What happens when a global technology giant, India’s foremost innovation mission, and a leading educational foundation come together for the planet? You get a record that demonstrates the true power of collective thought and action.

Dell Technologies India, in a landmark collaboration with the Atal Innovation Mission (AIM), NITI Aayog, and the Learning Links Foundation, mobilised an extraordinary number of volunteers across multiple simultaneous activities. All these activities focused on creating environmental awareness among Indian youth, setting a record for the Maximum Volunteers Engaged in Multiple Activities Towards Creating Environmental Awareness

This record is a testament to what can happen when corporate responsibility stops being a checkbox and becomes a genuine movement. By engaging young minds through the Atal Innovation Mission and hands-on activities, this initiative worked towards building the next generation of eco-conscious citizens.

The initiative channelled Dell’s deep network of employee volunteers and AIm’s nationwide reach into schools and communities, proving that tech companies can and must be frontline warriors in the battle for environmental sustainability.

Eco-conscious youngster spreads digital awareness

It is rightly said that you are never too young to make a difference. Charvi Sachin Gatpal, born on May 7, 2013, from Wardha, Maharashtra, at just 10 years of age, set a record that left the entire country in awe.

Between June 30 and December 23, 2023, Charvi created and uploaded 52 videos on YouTube, each one exploring Sanskrit shlokas from the book Paryavaran Shlok-Mala, with Hindi explanations on the importance of trees and the environment. Charvi’s record of making and uploading the maximum videos on the importance of trees and the environment.

Charvi’s achievement is a brilliant bridge between India’s ancient ecological knowledge and today’s digital age. By making Sanskrit environmental shlokas accessible on YouTube, she didn’t just set a record; she created a learning source for thousands of children across the country.

Climbing mountains with Environmental Message

The mountains have always been the most humbling classroom, and this record-setting team understood that truth intimately and chose to carry an environmental message to the highest possible altitude, using one of mountaineering’s most demanding formats: alpine style.

Munendra Singh of Uttarkashi, along with his team of 5 other summiteers, successfully scaled Mt. Bhagirathi-II, at a height of 6,512 metres, in alpine style from June 15 to June 21, 2025, with a powerful message to protect the Himalayan mountains by carrying back trash splayed across the path by people.

Through their record of performing the highest altitude expedition by team in alpine style with an environmental message, they have sent out a very clear message that, along with replantations and careful use of resources, curbing various forms of pollution is also essential to save the environment.

Unique Individual Effort for an Environmental Clean-up Campaign

When people speak of environmental change, they often look to governments, corporations, or movements. Sagar Pradhan’s story is a reminder that one individual with enough conviction can shake the world.

Sagar Pradhan set a record for unique individual effort for an environmental clean-up campaign, one that spanned multiple dimensions of conservation and community action. His contributions included:

– Planting saplings across his region

– Donating Rs.4 lakhs from his book royalties towards saplings plantation drives

– Cleaning beaches and restoring their natural ecosystems

– Restoring small lakes and ponds to health

– Writing a book and numerous articles on environmental issues

Sagar Pradhan didn’t wait for a movement to join. He became the movement. Using the earnings from his own writing to fund ecological restoration, he exemplifies the rare individual who puts their money, time, and energy into the earth’s healing and asks for nothing in return.

His story challenges the notion that environmental activism requires a platform, a following, or institutional backing. All it requires, as Sagar proved, is the will to act.

Environmental Campaign Triathlon by an Educational Institute

ViBharati Vidyapeeth (Deemed to be University) YMC, Pune, Maharashtra, under the visionary leadership of Dr Vishwajit Kadam, orchestrated a historic environmental campaign triathlon that wove together patriotism, sustainability, and student power into one unforgettable record-breaking event. They set a record for conducting the Environmental Campaign Triathlon by an Educational Institute.

The campaign, which aligned with the UNEP’s 2022 theme Only One Earth, comprised three simultaneous and interconnected activities:

–  Students climbing 75 historic forts and sowing seeds at summits

–  75 NSS girl volunteers ascending the iconic Fort Sinhagad

–  50 cyclists rallying from Sinhagad to Raigad, carrying the green message across Maharashtra’s heartland

The genius of this event lies in its layered symbolism. Three milestones- Indian Independence Platinum Jubilee, UNEP Golden Jubilee & BVDU Silver Jubilee- converged on one day, in one campaign, with one message: we have only one earth, and we must defend it.

Conclusion

Environment conservation in India is a major societal concern. India Book of Records understands one crucial thing that protecting the environment is protecting lives. That’s why we wholeheartedly appreciate anyone, be it a child, an adult, a corporate organisation, or an educational institution, who takes an initiative to protect the environment and takes concrete steps towards the execution of their constructive ideas. After all, it is our responsibility, and we must take care of it in the best possible way.
