The record for performing Silambam for the longest duration on Independence Day was set by M.P. Sugitha (born on September 24, 2008) of Tiruchirappall, Tamil Nadu. She performed Silambam non-stop for 76 minutes on August 15, 2022 on the occasion of 76th Independence Day celebrations, at the age of 13 years, 11 months and 20 days, as confirmed on September 13, 2022.
