The record for performing the deepest freedive in a lake was set by James K. P. (born on October 22, 1957) of Ernakulam, Kerala. He dived to a depth of 74.15 feet (22.6 metres) in Sasthamugal Lake (Thiruvaniyoor), without the aid of an oxygen cylinder, taking 2 minutes and 28 seconds to dive deep freely and reappearing at the surface, at the age of 68 years and 7 months, as confirmed on May 22, 2026.
