Tamil Nadu is the hub of creative people with amazing innovative ideas for record breaking or creating. Gummudipoondi, an industrial town in Thiruvallur district of Tamil Nadu state successfully proved this concept correct for yet another time. Gummudipoondi caught the excitement of the India Book of Records team with a unique new record creation. The scheduled attempt was the brainchild of Gandhi world Foundation of Gummudipoondi.

Performing an attempt on mass participation is never an easy task. An excited India Book of Records adjudicator Vivek Raja reached the town on the early hours of January 29, 2013, just to adjudicate the amazing mass attempt of hundredths of students getting their heads shaved completely within an hour.

At the scheduled time, the attempt started with great enthusiasm in the presence of the adjudicator, excited participants, guardians, organizers, onlookers and other school officials. Everybody was enthusiastically participating in the event. A total of 138 barbers were continuously shaving the heads of the participants one after the other. The guardians of the students co-operated even though in some places of India, complete shaving of the head (complete tonsuring) is not allowed according to their set customs.

The resultant of the 1 hour record attempt was that a total of 1,015 people got their heads shaved off completely in an hour and at that too at a single venue. Gummudipoondi had chipped in with a new record in the history of India Book of Records. This attempt was the bookmark to an inaugural category as it was never done in India Book of Records before.

Delivering such an attempt requires a lot of things- planning, co-ordination, courage, technique and most importantly proper support. It is never an easy task who does not put efforts at all. India Book of Records took the greatest pride in adding another shining record to its record book. Gandhi world Foundation would new category for us and India Book of Records salutes his efforts. Congratulations having successfully completed what they aimed at. But, it should be specially mentioned that the event would not have been as successful as it was without M.L Rajesh (Founder Trustee, Gandhi world Foundation), R. Vijaya Lakshmi (Managing Trustee, Gandhi world Foundation), G. Shyam sunder (Trustee, Gandhi world Foundation), Delvin formulations and the young energetic volunteers.
