A total of 66 girl students of Velammal Matric Higher Secondary School, Tamil Nadu, lit up 15,200 earthen lamps within the duration of 6 minutes, 1 second and 29 milliseconds, to mark the 66th Independence Day, on the August 15, 2012, at their school premises. The mud lamps were kept in such a way when viewed from above, it represented the outer horizon of the Indian map.
